We are very saddened to report that our Great Horned Owl, Desmond has passed away at the age of 23. Regularly taking part in flying displays, experiences and Owl evenings, Desmond was a firm favourite with adults and children alike. He will be deeply missed.
We were delighted when our pair of Lesser Kestrels bred this year. This was the first time the pair had bred and also a centre first. The pair arrived at the centre towards the latter part of 2017 and quickly settled into their new home, taking a particular interest in their nest box. Two chicks hatched in June and are currently being trained up to fly indoors, as part of our experiences.
2018 has seen its first chick hatch at Cotswold Falconry. A Hooded Vulture chick is now about 5 weeks old and is doing very well. Mum and Dad are experienced parents, as this is their fifth chick to successfully hatch. Hooded Vultures are a critically endangered species, so we are thrilled to be boosting the captive population.
A new species has arrived at Cotswold Falconry. Kei, a male African Fish Eagle is currently in training and is already making an appearance in one of our daily flying displays. African Fish Eagles are medium sized eagles found on most bodies of water throughout most of Africa.
