Steppe Eagle
Aquila nipalensis
Found in steppe, semi-desert and open hillside, the Steppe Eagle is a medium-sized ENDANDERED eagle that spends our summers in Eastern Europe and central Asia, and over-winters in Africa.
African Fish Eagle
Haliaeetus vocifer
African Fish Eagles can be found throughout sub-Saharan Africa, wherever there are large bodies of water. Their main diet is live fish, catching them on the surface of the water with their powerful feet, but they will also feed on carrion. They have a very distinctive (and loud) call.
Bateleur Eagle
Terathopius ecaudatus
Once a common sight gliding over African grasslands, now ENDANGERED. The gradual disappearance of these colourful eagles has largely been attributed to finding poisoned baits intended for large mammalian predators.
Bald Eagle
Haliaeetus leucocephalus
Having been heavily persecuted as competition to the inland fishing industry, and affected greatly by the agricultural chemicals used in the 1960’s and 70s, recent years of protection has seen a widespread recovery in it's North American population.
Tawny Eagle
Aquila rapax
A successful scavenger, hunter and pirate of Africa’s dry and open lands. We upgraded our pair's aviary at the start of 2016 and are hopeful of future breeding of this VULNERABLE species.
Golden Eagle
Aquila chrysaetos
With a (greatly reduced) range throughout much of the Northern Hemisphere, the Golden Eagle has been long admired for its power and hunting ability. Rob our current young Golden Eagle’s uncle Alex flew at the centre for many years.
